Tube Weaning

After a long and tiring journey, we are finally tube free! Our story below…

My son got sick in January, he wasn’t feeding well and we attended ED and had a feeding tube placed on him. At the time he needed this to keep him alive so we knew we needed to
Do this as a short term measure untill he became well enough to feed again.

This unfortunately wasn’t the case. My son became tube dependent for a total of nearly 9 months. I was heart broken. We had been seen by medical professionals including a paediatrician, speech therapist, and dietician. Numerous scans, ultrasound, heart checks and MRIs, all which came back all okay.

We were told constantly to feed him more and more through his NG tube which resulted in daily projectile vomiting. It was absolutely horrible. I felt so bad for my boy. He didn’t know what hunger felt like, he was constantly overfed and forgot totally how to even suck a bottle, it was a nightmare.

We were sick and tired of being told to just continue doing this because his medical team basically just wanted him to gain a ton of weight, there was no plan to ever get him off the tube. I was so lost, I felt like this nightmare was never going to end.

Then we got in touch with Lindsay, the one person who made sense and truly helped my boy and helped us. She changed everything. I felt as though I owed it to my son to give him a chance as it isn’t fair to have had him tube dependent for this long.

Lindsay supplied us with a customised plan to tube wean our son in a safe way. It was really hard, I was spiralling and I wanted to give up numerous times but Lindsay held my hand along the way, reassured me and got me through. We pulled out my son’s tube on day 10 of the tube wean and never looked back.

Lindsay, you’re an angel, you will never understand how much you’ve helped us, you have given me the chance to enjoy my beautiful boy after so many months of sadness and tears because I felt as though I had failed my son and failed as his mum. I will be forever grateful for you and what you have done for my son and for our family.

I really wanted to share my story in hopes that this can help other families. If you’re thinking of doing a tube wean with Lindsay, DO IT! Lindsay is worth her weight in gold and you will not regret it, she is amazing!
